Healthcare-associated infections (HCAI) are a serious issue in healthcare settings, and are becoming increasingly difficult to treat as bacteria become more and more resistant to antibiotics. The Health Protection Agency (HPA) estimates that between 15–30% of healthcare-associated infections are preventable. Staff in healthcare settings must bring a high level of awareness and diligence to their practice to prevent and control infections.
